Although featured here, the owner may not be interested in selling at this time or even consider these ideas. It's not our intention to overstep , but merely to bring attention to the possibility of buildings, and city lots, like these.
Start dreaming about what your business, or tourism idea could be. Dream big! There are lots of possibilities that will bring people to our town. Check out some of these inspiring ideas.
Stark Bros. Nursery decided, in 2019, not to open it nursery center again in 2020. What a great building for a winery, mercantile, or wedding venue. Lots of parking, great surroundings for photo opportunities and a wonderful option for the community when planning weddings, parties, meetings, etc. City summer movie nights could be held here, along with music festivals.
The Smith/Barr building stands tall and ready for it's third life. Located right next to our local hospital, it would make an ideal Veterans Home for Pike County. Perhaps the 3rd floor could be dedicated as a Veterans Hostile - a place where our homeless veterans can have a room and resources to get back on their feet.
The old Louisiana High School building is in need of total renovation, but what a great opportunity for a business complex, community center, or teen refuge. Our town could also have it's own community college or trade school. The possibilities are endless.
This park used to surround the town pool. Kids and families would frequent it to use the tennis courts, playground and pavilion. But times have changed. The pool was removed, the tennis courts are in disarray and the playground no longer holds the interest of little kids. Time for a facelift....a tangible way to honor our veterans and inviting ways to encourage future generations to get out and have fun.
This city block has been vacant for decades. There are many business that would work wonderfully here:
- Museum of all things Missouri, such as the Mississippi waterways and paddle-wheel boats.
- City Pavilion, housing the Farmers Market, family events, city events, etc.
- Spa with river views and Mississippi mud baths.
- Open air shopping plaza and eteries
A movie house? Folks in Louisiana have to travel 30 to 45 minutes to get to the nearest movie theatre. This movie house could be different - how about dinner and a movie? THAT, would draw others to us.
The Ol' Miss' makes for quite a view. There is city owned land just south of the public boat ramp. A great location for rental cabins on stilts (yes, it will flood).
